On August 17th and 18th, Tbay visited 2 schools in Ghana, Kewum-Atrobinya D/A Basic School located in Unnamed Road, and Asutsuare Duffor Methodist Basic School located in Shai Osudoku. They are the 46th and 47th school we donated for our “Donating 1,000 Schools” program in Africa.
Kewum-Atrobinya D/A Basic School was established in 1978 with a population of 10 pupils made up of 6 boys and 4 girls. The school started as a small school under a tree with only kindergarten Grade 2 to primary school Grade 6. It is a big rice farming community with a population of about 810 people, the community has a single school, clinic, and church. The inhabitants are mainly working in the farming industry. It’s a clean and safe community. The people are very kind and lovely.
Asutsuare Duffor Methodist Basic School began in 2005 with a small number of students with only 2 girls, 5 boys and 1 teacher, and the number of students has increased to 30 with 4 teachers so far. Students are very calm, lovely and hardworking.
We selected those 2 schools because the students lack daily essentials. Therefore, we brought them with exercise books, pencils, pens, erasers, sharpers, crayons, drinking water bottles, footballs, veronica buckets, wall clocks, sanitary pads. 242 students benefited from our donation this time.
After donation, our Tbay staff arranged a football match among the students. The sun bathed the playground in a comforting warmth. The atmosphere was alive with laughter and excitement, forming a delightful fusion of enthusiasm. Their youthful energy shone through every sprint, pass, and goal attempt, there exists a shared space where people can come together, relax, and bask in the joy of physical activity.
At last, we have some impressive interviews with schools’ staff. Kewum-Atrobinya D/A Basic School’s headmistress, Jennifer Boafo, expresses her gratitude to Tbay for the generous school donation, which will greatly benefit their teaching and learning efforts. However, she also addressed some challenges they face, such as safety concerns and learning materials.
Another community head, Mr. Tetteh Fio, said that he appreciated the donated school items and they needed more. The main challenges include a lack of lawn mowers to maintain the school compound and field. Due to the students' young age, they are struggling with weed clearance, avoiding snakes and other dangerous animals. He hoped that Tbay can support lawnmowers and help to build up a school library to enhance students’ learning circumstances.
Tbay expresses a deep understanding of the difficulties they are facing and assures that in the future, whenever there is an opportunity, we will do our best to help them overcome life challenges. And our “Donating 1,000 Schools” program in Africa will continue to help more people in need.
