At Tbay, your security is our top priority. Unfortunately, scammers often target gift card traders by pretending to be legitimate platforms like ours. These fraudsters operate on WhatsApp, Telegram, and other unofficial channels by tricking users into sharing card details before disappearing.
In this blog, we’ll explain the common scams users have reported and how you can protect yourself from falling victim. Remember: Tbay will never ask you to trade outside the app.
1. WhatsApp Scam:
“We Can Give You Better Rates”Scammers message users on WhatsApp, pretending to be from the Tbay team. They offer higher-than-usual rates to convince you to trade with them privately. Once you share your gift card, they either block you or make excuses and disappear.
🚫 Warning: Tbay never conducts trades via WhatsApp. If someone contacts you there, report and block them immediately.
2. Building Trust Then Scamming Big
Some scammers play the long game. They complete a few small trades to gain your trust. They go out of the way to make sure everything seems legit until you send them a high-value gift card. That’s when they vanish, taking your card and your money with them.
🤝 Tip: Always keep your trades within the app, no matter how trustworthy someone may seem.
3. Telegram Scam: Fake Tbay Agents
Fraudsters join various Telegram groups where users discuss gift card trading. They message users directly, claiming they’re from Tbay. They promise faster service, special perks, or priority treatment. But only if you trade with them outside the app. If you share your gift card:
They might disappear. They might falsely claim your card is invalid. They might even send fake screenshots to convince you.
📱 Note: While Tbay offers a Telegram mini-app, it functions exactly like our official app with the same security measures. We never conduct trades through standard Telegram chats or groups. Any "agent" contacting you directly in Telegram chats is an impostor.
4. Impersonating Trusted Tbay Vendors
Scammers sometimes impersonate popular or verified vendors on Tbay. They might use a similar username or steal profile photos to look legit in online groups or chats. They’ll say:“I’ve done hundreds of trades. Ask anyone.” Then they trick you into a private trade and scam you. They may also claim that you need to "reactivate your account" or "verify a recent transaction." They'll ask for your login details or gift card codes under false pretences.
⚠️ Please remember our vendors have no access to user contact information so they cannot contact you outside the Tbay app. If you have received a message from someone with a Tbay vendor name, its an impersonator trying to scam you.
5. Providing False Payment Proofs
Some scammers send a photoshopped screenshot of a payment confirmation, insisting they’ve already paid you. They pressure you to release the card code quickly.
🧾 Tip: Always check your wallet inside the app. Don’t rely on external screenshots or payment promises.
6. Fake Tbay Support Numbers
Some scammers create fake customer support profiles or post false Tbay helpline numbers online. When you call or message these numbers, they act like real support agents, polite and professional. They might say they need your card details to “verify a transaction” or “resolve an issue.”
📞 Tip: Tbay doesn’t offer phone support. All official support happens inside the app or via [email protected].
7. “Too Good to Be True” Promotions or Giveaways
Fraudsters might promote fake “Tbay giveaways” or “limited-time bonuses” in social media groups.
Example:“First 50 people to send $50 in gift cards get $100 in return! It’s bait. They collect your cards and vanish.
🎉 Note: Tbay announces promotions only via official app notifications or verified channels. Also, we only send out emails from [email protected]. If you receive any campaign or giveaway information from any other email address, do not trust it,. Do not click any link in such emails.
Conclusion:
Online scams are becoming more sophisticated every day and fraudsters are always looking for new ways to take advantage of unsuspecting users. But staying safe doesn’t have to be complicated. The most important rule is simple: Never trade outside the Tbay app. Trust only official communication channels, double-check any offers that seem too good to be true, and when in doubt, contact our in-app support. Tbay is committed to keeping your gift card trading experience secure and scam-free.
