The 1000 Schools in Africa initiative is Tbay’s long-term commitment to supporting education in underserved communities across the continent. Through this program, we identify public schools that need support and visit them to provide essential learning materials, engage with students, and understand how we can offer continued help. On January 16, 2025, our team visited Maidan Primary School in Lagos as part of this ongoing effort.
About Maidan Primary School
Maidan Primary School is a public school located in the heart of Lagos. Like many public schools, it serves a community that relies heavily on collective support and goodwill. When we reached out to the school, they welcomed us with open arms, sharing their needs and hopes for their students.
This outreach was carefully chosen to support a school where even small contributions could make a meaningful difference and on this day, 70 students became the center of our focus.
How the Day Unfolded?
Our volunteers arrived at Maidan Primary School to a warm but modest environment. We began with a brief meeting with the school head, after which the students were organized for the day’s activities. We introduced Tbay and explained the purpose of our visit.
The local government chairperson was present and addressed the students with encouraging words, setting a positive tone for the day. To make the experience interactive, we engaged the children in fun question-and-answer games, rewarding their curiosity and confidence with small gifts.
Soon after, it was time for the main event, the presentation of donated items.
What We Distributed?
Each student received essential school supplies aimed at supporting both learning and joy. These included:
Exercise books
Stationery items
Water Bottles
A football for group play
The donated items were formally presented to the school teachers and the local government representative, symbolizing a shared responsibility toward the students’ growth and well-being.
Learning Beyond the Classroom
No school day is complete without play. After the donations, the students gathered outside for extracurricular activities, with football quickly becoming the highlight. Volunteers and students played together, laughed together, and shared moments that went beyond textbooks and lessons.
Later, we interviewed the head teacher, who spoke openly about the school’s needs and her hope that Tbay could continue to support Maidan Primary School in the future. The local government representative also shared his thoughts, encouraging more people to use Tbay so that even more students could benefit in upcoming outreaches.
