On October 19th , Tbay visited Okemeta Memorial Primary School, located in 17 Bajulaiye road Shomolu, Lagos in Nigeria. Which was the 56th school we donated for our “Donating 1,000 Schools” program in Africa.
Okemeta memorial primary school was founded by M.O. Osiyoye who hailed from Oke-Meta, Ikosa Quarters of Odogbolu in Ogun State in 1950. The school took off with a private nursery, primary school and commercial schools operated together in a house in Apata area of Shomolu, Lagos. Thereafter, the school moved to the present location with only the primary section in 1960, the school was one of those privileged to display during the independence celebration at race-course (now Tafawa Balewa Square). In 1979, Lagos state government took over the school along with other private schools in the state.
This school needs assistance, but often been overlooked by charity organizations due to their location and environment. Our goal is to integrate the students into the community's restorative system by supplying them with necessary materials as educational support.
The first opening speech started from Augusta, and we donated our items, including exercise books, biro, pencils, water bottle, snacks, wall clocks, footballs.
After the donation, we organized a charades game and football games among pupils, they’re so happy to participate in. As friendships are forged and rivalries play out on the field, the football games in the school playground become a melting pot of diversity, bringing students of different backgrounds and skill levels together. The experience extends beyond physical activity, instilling valuable lessons in cooperation, discipline, and resilience. Gifts were also given to the students who participated.
The headmistress, a teacher and student were interviewed, they expressed their appreciation for what Tbay team have done for them, they hoped Tbay can help more students in need in the future. At the end of our charity event, appreciation songs are presented by the students.
We will continue our dedication to the "Donating 1,000 Schools" program in Africa, and consistently offer assistance to those who need help.
