At Tbay, our mission goes beyond just providing top-notch gift card trading services, we’re also committed to creating a lasting impact through our “1000 Schools in Africa” charity program. This long-term initiative aims to support underprivileged schools across the continent by donating essential learning materials and resources to empower the next generation. We believe that education is the foundation for a brighter future, and we’re proud to play a small part in shaping it.
For the month of March, our journey took us to Gbawe, a vibrant town located in the Greater Accra Region of Ghana. Known for its warm, welcoming community, Gbawe is also home to schools that strive to make a difference despite limited resources.
About Gbawe Methodist 1 Basic School
Gbawe Methodist 1 Basic School was established on 19th February 1945 and stands as a historical educational pillar in the Gbawe community. It was the first public and mission school founded by the Methodist Church in the area.
Before Ghana’s educational reforms in 1987, students had to travel long distances to access middle school education. The introduction of the Junior Secondary School (JSS) system brought relief, and the school has since evolved into a fully functioning institution comprising kindergarten, primary, and junior high school departments. The school serves a diverse and friendly community known for its unity and kindness.
Why We Chose This School?
Gbawe Methodist 1 Basic School was selected for this month’s donation due to the presence of outstanding and talented students who unfortunately lack the necessary tools to fully harness their academic potential. Despite their brilliance and dedication, the lack of basic educational supplies has been a hurdle. We believe that providing support to such schools can truly uplift the students and improve their overall academic journey.
Charity Event: March 5th, 2025
The event kicked off with a meeting between the Tbay team and the school administration to align on the day's activities. The warm welcome from the staff set a positive tone for the event.
Welcome Address
The school welcomed the Tbay team with heartfelt gratitude. A school representative said:“We are here with us today a team from Tbay. Their mission is to donate to 1000 schools in Africa. They are here to help the students with school items to enhance teaching and learning. God bless you for coming. Welcome!”
Tbay’s Speech
Velarie, our representative, shared a few words about who we are and why we were there:“Tbay is a platform that provides secure online gift card trading services. But beyond our business, we believe in giving back. As part of our charity program to reach 1000 schools in Africa, we are here in Gbawe Methodist 1 Basic School to donate educational items. These include exercise books, pens, pencils, lunch boxes, socks, water bottles, and more. We hope this small gesture brings a big smile to your faces and helps you in your studies.”
The Donation & Activities
After the speeches, we handed out the school items to the pupils, one by one. The joy on their faces made every moment worthwhile. Our team also captured the day with heartwarming photos and videos to preserve the memory and share the spirit of the event.
